Our accessibility statement.

What we aim at

WCAG 2.1 level AA for the website and the app. That is the standard most districts require and it is the one we test against.

What is in place

• Every interactive control is a real button or link, reachable and operable from the keyboard
• Visible focus outlines everywhere, never removed
• Text contrast checked against AA, in both the light and the dark theme
• Questions and answers use native disclosure elements, so they work in a screen reader without any script
• All motion is behind a reduced motion preference check
• The app can be driven without sound, and every audio control is optional rather than a gate
• Text size follows the browser and the app has its own size control on top

Known gaps

• The brand gold is not used for small text anywhere. As small text on paper it measures 4.3 to 1, which is under AA, so text uses a darker bronze that measures 5.6 on paper and 5.1 on sand. The gold remains the fill colour behind dark text, which passes comfortably. Every one of those figures is measured on every test run rather than eyeballed.
• The story reader marks the words you can look up with an underline. Colour is not the only signal, because they are also buttons and reachable from the keyboard, but the underline on its own is deliberately faint.
• The app carries a dark theme as well as a light one. Both are contrast checked, but the dark theme has had less real use.
• No formal audit by a third party has been carried out.
