Our accessibility statement.

What we aim at

WCAG 2.1 level AA for the website and the app. That is the standard most districts require and it is the one we test against.

What is in place

• Every interactive control is a real button or link, reachable and operable from the keyboard
• Visible focus outlines everywhere, never removed
• Text contrast checked against AA, in both the light and the dark theme
• Questions and answers use native disclosure elements, so they work in a screen reader without any script
• All motion is behind a reduced motion preference check. Every animation and every transition in the stylesheet sits inside one guard, the reveals that start hidden are switched on by a class the script only adds when the browser reports no preference, and the test suite reads the stylesheet on every run to prove that nothing has escaped
• Nothing on the site depends on movement to be readable. With animation off, or with the script blocked entirely, every section is present and every demo is either working or replaced by the plain content underneath it
• The app can be driven without sound, and every audio control is optional rather than a gate
• Text size follows the browser and the app has its own size control on top

Known gaps

• The palette is bright, and half of it cannot be used for text. The yellow measures 1.4 to 1 against paper, so it is a fill colour only and never a letter; every bright hue in the system therefore ships as a pair, the vivid one for fills and a deepened one that passes as small text. The violet brand colour is the exception and works as both. Every one of those figures is measured in a real browser on every test run rather than eyeballed.
• The story reader marks the words you can look up with an underline. Colour is not the only signal, because they are also buttons and reachable from the keyboard, but the underline on its own is deliberately faint.
• The app carries a dark theme as well as a light one. Both are contrast checked, but the dark theme has had less real use.
• No formal audit by a third party has been carried out.
